What Is Smile Design?

Smile design is a treatment plan that improves the look of your smile by changing the shape, size, colour and position of your teeth. It can include teeth whitening, veneers, crowns, gum shaping and braces. The plan is made to suit your face, lips and teeth.

Is Smile Design Right for You?

Smile design can help if you have:

  • Stained or yellow teeth
  • Chipped, worn or uneven teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Crooked or crowded teeth
  • Small, short or misshapen teeth
  • A “gummy” smile
  • Old fillings or crowns that look dark or do not match

Treatments Used in Smile Design

  • Teeth whitening. Lightens stained teeth.
  • Veneers. Thin covers on the front of the teeth, in ceramic or composite.
  • Crowns. Caps that reshape and cover damaged teeth.
  • Tooth-coloured fillings and bonding. Repair chips and close small gaps.
  • Gum shaping. Adjusts the gum line for an even smile.
  • Braces or aligners. Straighten teeth before other cosmetic work.

You do not need all of these. Dr. Urvi Patel will suggest only what your smile needs.

How Smile Design Works

  1. Consultation. You tell us what you want to change.
  2. Examination. Teeth, gums, bite and X-rays are checked. Cavities and gum disease are treated first.
  3. Photos and models. Photos and impressions or scans are taken.
  4. Plan and preview. You see the plan and, where possible, a preview of the result before starting.
  5. Treatment. Steps are done over one or more visits.
  6. Care plan. You get advice to keep the result looking good.

Healthy Teeth Come First

Cosmetic work should be done on healthy teeth and gums. If you have decay or gum disease, these must be treated first, or the results will not last.

Aftercare

Most treatments have little downtime. You may have some sensitivity after whitening or tooth preparation. Brush twice a day, floss, avoid smoking and limit tea, coffee and colas to keep the results bright. Visit for checkups every 6 months.

How Long Does the Result Last?

This depends on the treatment. Whitening may last from several months to a few years. Composite bonding often lasts a few years. Ceramic veneers and crowns can last 10 to 15 years or more with good care.

Why Choose OrthoD Hospital

  • Honest advice. You are told which treatments you need and which you can skip.
  • A written plan and cost before starting
  • Natural-looking results. We aim for a smile that suits your face, not a “one size fits all” look.

Smile Design Cost

The cost depends on the treatments in your plan, the number of teeth and the materials used. You get a written estimate after your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between smile design and teeth whitening?

Whitening only changes tooth colour. Smile design looks at the whole smile, including shape, size, position and gums.

Is smile design painful?

Most treatments are comfortable. Some need local anaesthesia.

How long does smile design take?

From one visit for simple work to a few weeks for a full plan.

Are veneers permanent?

They are long-lasting but not permanent. They may need replacement after some years.

Can I see the result before I start?

Where possible, we show a preview or mock-up so you can decide.
